In order for your child to be successful in my courses, here are a a few areas to monitor: 1. Attendance- Missing class keeps your child from receiving specialized instruction that will aid in their making strides in their academic areas. Class participation, assignments and group activities are designed to both teach AND help students gain academic success. 2. Notebook- The students have been taught the exact way to set up their notebooks for my courses. They will need a "math only" and a "reading only" notebook. Periodically I will do "spot checks " to make sure the students have their table of contents and pertinent information aligned with that of my own notebooks. 3. Group Participation- Every day in class, your child will work in a cooperative group ranging from 2-3 or 5-6 other students. The groups are created for academic balance, ESOL/ ESE accomodations and needs. Students who thrive and succeed in class work well with each other, ask questions and provide assistance to their group. They enjoy competing together when given the chance and recognize it is much easier to ask a peer for help than to face the fear of asking a question in front of the group. If your child has the motivation and interest in succeeding in class, you will find that he or she is present every day, will have a well-organized, maintained folder, and he or she is consistently in class participating on a daily basis.
